Cabana Omu - Hiking
One of the pictures is of me getting a bandaid and ibuprofin before we even got on the train, The group holding the arrow pointing the way along the trail (even though we didnt know which way it was originally pointing we made it to our destination), Me sledding on a garbage bag, 2 of the cabana and it was so foggy, sheep in the mountain, the snow slopes we fell down, and walking around a cliff.
A few months ago I went on a hiking trip with 6 friends. The views were amazing and breathtaking!! We took the train to Buşteni and then went on a cable car to the beginning of the hike. We hiked up to 2507 meters and stayed the night at Cabana Omu. It was freezing and snowing, which was weird for me in July. The trail had trail markers of different colors and didn't seem to be updated for quite some time. We got off trail a few times but eventually found our way up to the top. On the way we had to cross snow which sucked and I kept slipping. It was quite dangerous at a few points due to the high incline and sharp rocks on the decline. One slip and you would slip down to the rocks. I did this once and bruised my elbow and hip. Not fun!! We decided to make some fun about being in the snow and got out garbage bags to go sledding. It was great until we were all wet and had to continue up the mountain. After quite a few scrapes and bruises we made it to the cabana. A lady lives there and cooks for the hikers. The food was awesome and cheap!! If you wanted to stay the night in the cabana you could sleep in a huge bunk bed that spread across 2 walls and had 31 beds. Three of the guys slept in there, I slept in a tent with one other person, and Adrianne slept in her sleeping bag outside!! She was brave enough to be in zero degree weather just the whole night. I thought she would end up in the tent but she proved me wrong. It was so windy that the walls of the tent were going crazy!! Eventually I drowned out the noise that was like a train going past. The next morning I was so excited about going down the mountain instead of up but soon changed my mind. I didn't realize it would be so tough. We also got lost off the trail and ended up having to basically rock climb down as quickly as we could because a storm was rolling in. It rained on us and by the time we got down we were all so tired and excited!! All in all it was a great trip and the beauty was worth every sore muscle and bruise. I could not walk for a week after due to my legs completely refusing. I loved the trip but am not planning another hiking trip anytime soon. I also got congratulated when we got back because I didn't complain once and everyone thought I would the whole time. Jerks!! I proved everyone wrong and they were all very impressed with us girls.
