4th of July in Bucuresti, Romania
A few of us Peace Corps volunteers were invited to the American Embassy for their 4th of July Party. It was really nice. The whole street was blocked off in a fancy district of the city where the Ambassador's Residence is. The security was crazy. There were snipers on all the neighboring rooftops watching since Foreign Ambassadors and Romanian Politicians were there. The theme of the Party was Western or Casual and it was funny to see so many Romanians wearing the american flag and western cowboy outfits. They had American Barbeque for dinner and even Granny Smith Apples. Yummy!!
This is the Romanian President on the Left, Prime Minister and American Ambassador. I was so excited because I got to stand next to the President when the night started but I was too shy to bother him for a handshake.
This is Erik and Caroline. Caroline was my Peace Corps sitemate in Pitesti. She finished her Peace Corps service and went home July 6th so I am quite sad.
This is Jamie a new volunteer. Oh yeah they handed out American Flags and cardboard fans at the party that said "Im a Fan of America" Haha.
An Orthodox Church somewhere in Bucuresti.
Me and Caroline
This is the Arcul de Triumph, Bucuresti's very own version of the Parisian Arc de Triumph. It was created to commemorate the end of World War I.
Erik and his state Flag. They didn't have Michigan!!!
This is Carolyn, a volunteer who came here to my city Pitesti 13 years ago. She was not in the Peace Corps but now runs an NGO called Mission of Mercy. She is really nice and willing to help us out for anything.
An old communist car that has been sitting here waaaaayyy too long.
This is a room at the Ambassador Hotel where the Peace Corps has us stay when we need to visit the Dr. or PC Office. It is a nice hotel in the center....however our 2 star rooms are very small and do not have air!! Luckily the next time I stayed in this room they had a fan.
As you may notice the shower is on the wall!! Everything and I mean Everthing gets soaked.
They always have very cute matching furniture in the rooms.
